Over 50% of each harvest will be donated to local food banks. The remainder will be shared by Garden members who have registered, paid the annual fee, and have worked ten hours or more in the garden. The remainder may also be provided for church or garden club use.
Organization of Garden Staff
Gardeners: The garden is worked by members of WFBC Community Connections Garden. A yearly fee of $15 per family will cover the cost of supplies, but can be waived for hardship. Gardeners will be vested and eligible to harvest once they have worked 10 hours. Community Connections Garden members need not be members of WFBC.
Master Gardener: The Master Gardener, a church member, optionally working with a committee of gardeners, provides the oversight and master planning for the garden year round. This includes the emerging garden blueprint, crop selections, year round calendar planning and advisement to the Saturday coordinators on what can be harvested and when, as well as activities that can be planned for the month.
Garden Coordinator: The Garden Coordinator, a church member, will serve as the as contact person for the garden to the Wake Forest Baptist Church Missions council and provide the planning, reporting and budgeting activities required. The Garden Coordinator will work with the Master Gardener to call a general meeting open for planning the garden.
Garden Secretary: The Garden Secretary, a church member, will keep track of the hours each gardener works, record meeting minutes and maintain a contact list (preferably email) of the gardeners.
Garden Treasurer: The Garden Treasurer, a church member, records income from donations and annual fees from gardeners as well as garden expenditures.
Watering Coordinator: The Watering Coordinator makes sure we have volunteers each week to water the garden.
Communicator: Keeps gardeners informed, helps operate Facebook or blog sites, prepares updates and announcements for the church, flyers for publicity associated with outreach and fundraising activities.
Harvest Coordinator: The Harvest Coordinator maintain records on the pounds of produce harvested, communicates harvest available for members and works with local relief agencies for the delivery of donated produce.
Saturday Coordinators: Directs Saturday workday activities. We plan to have dedicated coordinators and co-coordinators for each Saturday of the month.
Registration: Each person that works in the garden shall fill out a registration form with name, address, and contact information. The $15 annual fee will be collected.
Log Sheet: Actual hours worked will be noted on a work log sheet that will be available at the worksite. The Garden Secretary will transfer the hours recorded on the log sheet to the registration form and keep a running tally.
“To-Do” List: A “to do” list will be available at the worksite. Gardeners will consult the list upon arrival, and do the most critical work first. The list will include what may currently be harvested. Gardeners will tidy the worksite prior to leaving, and contact the coordinator about any potential problems.
Harvesting: The Master Gardener will determine when harvesting can be done and note this on the “to do” list. On Saturday workdays, half of the harvest will be set aside for the local food relief, and the remaining half available to vested gardeners. Any surplus from the gardeners share will also be donated.
Meetings: We want most of our time in the garden, but meetings will be held on bimonthly or quarterly basis.
