With the weather cooling things are starting to slow down in the garden now. We are still tending fall greens and the last of the summer crops. We have some great looking collards and cabbage now. It has been a great summer of harvest as we provided produce to meet local food needs through the Bunn Soup Kitchen, Mobile Market and Tri Area Ministry.
We also want to celebrate some of our gardeners who have done well at the North Carolina State Fair.
First, congratulations to Mike Watts. In his first time ever at the fair, Mike took second place in the Butternut Squash category with some squash he grew in his garden at home. Congratulations Mike!
David Arnold took some of the honey harvest from our community garden hives. The honey scored a 97 out of 100 and came in 5th out of 35 entries!. Great job David!
David is donating ten jars for sale to raise funds for the garden. All proceeds will go towards purchasing apiary (bee yard) safety equipment (e.g. bee jackets, veils and gloves).
